Institutional Visit of the Financial Intelligence Agency of the Republic of San Marino

From 24 to 26 November 2025, the Supervisory and Financial Information Authority hosted a delegation of the Financial Intelligence Agency of the Republic of San Marino for a series of meetings dedicated to key issues in the prevention and countering of money laundering and the financing of terrorism.

The working sessions enabled an in-depth exchange of experiences and good practices concerning the Monetary Agreement with the European Union, the challenges arising from the sixth round of evaluations conducted by the MONEYVAL Committee of the Council of Europe, and the respective supervisory activities, including methodologies, inspection procedures, planning of controls and sanctioning measures.

Particular attention was devoted to the operational functions of Financial Intelligence Units, such as operational and strategic analysis, the collection and management of information for financial intelligence purposes, and international cooperation in the AML/CFT sphere.

Further topics addressed included the assessment of risks related to the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, virtual assets and their service providers, as well as risks associated with non-profit entities and legal persons.

The visit represented an important opportunity for dialogue between the two Authorities, reaffirming the value of institutional cooperation in strengthening the effectiveness of their respective systems for preventing and countering financial crime.
