Institutional Visit of a Delegation from Liechtenstein

On 25 and 26 March 2026, the Supervisory and Financial Information Authority (ASIF) and the Governorate of Vatican City State hosted a delegation from the Principality of Liechtenstein, comprising representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the Office of Justice, the Financial Market Authority (FMA) and the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU).

The meeting provided an important opportunity to exchange views on the characteristics and common challenges of the respective jurisdictions, with particular focus on the evolution of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing frameworks. Discussions covered, among other topics, the experience gained during the latest MONEYVAL evaluation cycle and preparations for future assessment processes.

The working sessions also explored recent developments in the European AML/CFT framework, including the implications of the European Union's legislative package and the Central Register of Beneficial Ownership Information. In addition, the delegations shared experiences and best practices in the fields of financial supervision and financial intelligence, addressing issues such as supervisory priorities for 2026, the implementation of international financial sanctions, strategic and operational analysis conducted by the respective FIUs, and related operational challenges.

Further topics included assessments of the risk of misuse of legal entities for money laundering and terrorist financing purposes, as well as sectoral risk analyses of the financial sector. The meeting confirmed the excellent level of cooperation between the two jurisdictions and underscored the importance of dialogue among competent authorities as a key instrument for strengthening the effectiveness of AML/CFT systems.
