2026 Egmont Working Group and Regional Group Meetings

The Supervisory and Financial Information Authority (ASIF) participated in the 2026 Egmont Group Working and Regional Group Meetings, held in Tanzania from 26 to 30 January 2026.

The meetings provided an important opportunity for dialogue, strategic exchange and knowledge sharing among Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs), bringing together experts from around the world to discuss key developments in the fields of financial intelligence, anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing.

During the meetings, participants addressed a wide range of topics, including the operational independence of FIUs, technological developments and artificial intelligence, responses to environmental crime and cyber threats, as well as emerging AML/CFT typologies and case studies. Discussions also featured contributions from international partners, including the FATF, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

ASIF actively contributed to these discussions, with particular focus on mitigating the unintended consequences that the improper implementation of FATF Standards may have on non-profit organisations engaged in legitimate humanitarian activities. The topic generated significant interest among participants and highlighted the importance of ensuring that AML/CFT measures remain effective while safeguarding the activities of legitimate humanitarian actors.

ASIF expresses its appreciation to the Financial Intelligence Unit of Tanzania for the excellent organisation of the meetings and the warm hospitality extended to all participants. The event once again confirmed the value of international cooperation and dialogue among FIUs in addressing the growing challenges posed by financial crime.
