On Friday July 17, the ASIF and the Deutsche Bundesbank signed a memorandum of understanding on technical cooperation: the agreement represents a further strengthening of the relationship between the two Institutions.
Dr. Federico Antellini Russo, Director of the ASIF, stated:
“The signature of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Supervisory and Financial Information Authority and the Deutsche Bundesbank marks a genuine milestone in a journey that began several years ago and which, I hope, will continue for a very long time to come. A journey during which our two Institutions have had the opportunity to get to know one another ever more deeply, to cooperate ever more closely and, above all, to build mutual trust [...].
The signing of this MoU takes place in the year marking the fifteenth anniversary of the creation of this Authority, and just a few weeks after the entry into force of the new Statute of the Supervisory and Financial Information Authority, promulgated by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV. It offers us the opportunity, as is the case on similar occasions and anniversaries, to look back at the past, but above all, to look forward to the future with conviction. I hope that the collaboration between our two Institutions will continue to grow stronger and become even more close-knit.”
In his introductory speech, Mr. Burkhard Balz, Member of the Executive Board of Deutsche Bundesbank, underlined:
“Today, as we sign this Memorandum of Understanding, we affirm our shared commitment to the principles of integrity, transparency, and international cooperation. This agreement provides a framework for continued exchange and mutual support and reflects our common aspiration to serve the greater good through a stable and just financial system [...].
Let us continue to nurture the spirit of partnership and mutual respect that has brought us to this moment. May our cooperation be guided by wisdom, humility, and a sincere desire to serve.”
The partnership has also been made possible by the Holy See's clear commitment to strengthening its financial architecture in line with international standards. Through greater transparency, accountability, and professionalism, the Holy See has continued to build increasingly solid credibility within the international financial community.
In the words of Mr. Balz:
“We recall with respect the fruitful exchanges between Pope John Paul II and the then President of the Bundesbank, Hans Tietmeyer. [...]
The successors of Pope John Paul II - Pope Benedict XVI, Pope Francis and Pope Leo XIV - have built upon this legacy, guiding the Holy See’s financial institutions with wisdom and foresight. Their efforts to further develop the financial architecture of the Holy See, in harmony with international standards, have fostered greater transparency and accountability, and have contributed to strengthening confidence within the global financial community.”
